Mescal Fire Department Information

A few weeks ago, it was brought to our attention that the Mescal/J6 Fire Department, approximately a year and a half ago, removed the water tinder and water tower on the north side of the railroad tracks. This decision has made it very difficult to facilitate fighting fires on the north side of the tracks. Since the decision to remove the water source, further developments have begun to move the fire station another 20 minutes further from our location and to begin dropping homeowners from fire/EMS services.

We have a very slim window of time to address these issues with the county and our representatives to impress upon them the seriousness of the matter and the fire departments decision (without voter knowledge) to relocate.

After some research, we have discovered that of the 90 parcels in Cumaro Valley, 32 have already been removed from the Mescal/J6 Fire Department’s service area. We are interested in knowing the options available to these homeowners.

Additionally, there has been discussion about the J6/Mescal fire department building a multi-million dollar facility (Fire stations and Community Center), getting rid of the two existing building and purchasing land and building on the Red Hawk/J6 side of the highway. This development raises concerns for the residents of Bell Road, not only regarding water resources but also response time in general, especially if someone needs emergency medical services.

Several members of our community have been attending the fire department meetings, asking questions, and the fire chief has since agreed to hold a community meeting with us. The meeting is set for Nov. 6 at 6pm at the Administration Bldg.

If you are interested in attending, please reach out to us, and we will inform you when the meeting is scheduled.  You can email to cvriaBensonAZ@gmail.com or call (520) 449-3309 to let us know if you will be joining the group.

We are requesting the community’s involvement in this matter. This is the only way our voices can be heard, and not to mention, your life or property may depend on it.
